Perhaps it was on the cards, every year I take delight in informing the players that we've never lost to Sudbury. Well, I can't use that line any more. Today the best team won and it wasn't us.
No match report today, I'm afraid. All I can bring myself to publish is the bare figures which are Sudbury 29 Ipswich 12.
Our try scorers were Henry Lane and Ferdous Ahmed. George Solomon converted the latter.
Hats off to Henry for recording his first try for the club. Other noteworthy mentions include the "friendly fire" whack received by Pash when getting up from a ruck. I had to point out to him later that it had unfortunately been Alexander HS who had made the contact, thus ending any misheld motivation of revenge action!
Alex Hitter is now a fully paid up member of the squad and continues to show promise. He played in his debut match today as a winger but the betting money is on him moving to the pack, especially due to his powerful looking frame seeming to suggest the Second Row awaits. He also brings the name of Alex back to a more healthy number, as this, traditionally popular name in our squad, was becoming officially endangered.
Tackle of the day goes to Josh, who knocked over, with perfect technique, the giant of a prop who did indeed crash to the ground with an almighty thud, as Josh sprang back to his feet with a cheeky grin. You see Josh, it's like us coaches always say, get the technique right and it's the other bloke who comes off worse.
Sudbury's match report was posted recently, and appears below for the record.
"Sudbury U15s played host to local rivals Ipswich on Sunday with both teams bringing large squads it was agreed by both sides that the match would be played over 3 periods with all players being used enabling development of both squads.
The match started with Sudbury going straight on the attack with Shaun Smith playing in the centre crashing over for the first points. The restart by Ipswich was taken up by the Sudbury forwards and with good hands all round and with Ipswich under pressure on their own line Sam Moore took advantage of a mistake by the visitors to score his first try of the season this was quickly followed by his second try (just like buses).
The second period saw Sudbury change the entire forward pack with Ipswich also making a few changes with this turn around the wind now favoured the visitors who used this to good advantage to score two tries. With Ipswich controlling the forward play it was up to Sudbury now to defend and managed to restrict Ipswich to just the two scores and managing to hold the ball up over the line on three occasions .
The last period saw Sudbury change the forward pack back to the original selection and the backs were also changed to allow some of the new players a run. Sudbury started to run the ball around a bit more now with Mikey Bacon scoring two tries in quick succession. With Sudbury trying out players in different positions this made the last few minutes a bit disjointed but a great effort from the entire squad.
Man of the Match Rhys Camilleri with a great performance at fullback."
